Grover H. Bratcher, 88 of Norman, died Thursday Sept. 12 in
Dallas. Visitation will be Sunday at Havenbrook Funeral Home
in Norman. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bethel Baptist
Church in Norman with the Rev. James C. Ehrlich officiating.
Burial will follow at the Norman IOOF Cemetary. Havenbrook
Funeral Homes is handling arrangements.
Mr. Bratcher was born Dec.2, 1913 in Prairie Valley to Marshall
Houstan and Sara Amanda Horton Bratcher. He graduated from
Ardmore High School in 1931 and received a bachelor's degree
from Southeastern University and a master's degree and hours
toward a doctorate degree from the University of Oklahoma. He
was an Oklahoma teacher, prinipal and superintendent of schools
for 43 years. He moved to Norman, whwre he taught the last 20
years of his career. He was Norman Central Junior High principal
for 12 years before working for the Oklahoma State Department
of Education, where he was in charge of innovative programs.
He retired in 1979. He enjoyed people and working with students,
especially in music. He was involved in community and civic
work, served on the Norman Board of Reeves Park and was
president of the Norman Kiwanis Club in 1969. He was a deacon
at First Baptist Church in Norman and was also a member of
Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Bratcher was preceded in death by his parents; sisters,
Clura Lewis, Mary Hester Reed and Lillian Adams; and brother,
Mr. Bratcher is survived by his wife, Sidelle Young Bratcher of
the home; daughters, Karen Beecham and her husband, Roger
of Coppell, Texas and Mary Morrow and her husband, Don of
Yukon; grandchildren, Matthew Beecham and his wife, Rachel
Venn, Rachel Amanda Beecham, David Affentranger, Michael
Hardwick and Jenny Hardwick; and many other family members
Bearers will be Matthew Beecham, David Affentranger, Micahel
Hardwick and Don James and Tom Young. Honorary bearers will
be Harvey Albright, Gary Adams, Joe Reed and members of the
Josh Lee Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
