Mae Butler of Norman died Sunday, July 7, at Norman. She was 80.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Primrose Chapel,
with Dr. Hugh Wilson officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, under
the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.
The daughter of James and Juliaetta Pitts, she was born Oct. 29, 1910,
at Fayetteville, Ark. She graduated from Jenks Hign School in 1927, and
married Ralph D. Butler at Purcell on Feb. 29, 1937.
After receiving her bachelor of science degree in 1949 and her master of
education degree in 1954, both at the University of Oklahoma. Mrs Butler
taught elementary education at Norman from 1949-75. She had been a
member of First Christian Church of Norman since 1948, and was also a
member of the Oklahoma Education and National Education and
Cleveland county Retired Teachers Associations.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph, of the home.; two sons, Gerald
R. of Portland, Ore., and Dr, Dale R. Butler of Sacramento, Calif.; three
sisters, Kathryn Cooper and Marie Cunningham, both of Jenks, and Anna
Belle Woodworth of North Carolina; two brothers, William Frederick of
Denver, Colo., and Joseph Frederick of Evanston, Ind.; and two
grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Butler.
