Mrs. Lola Gene Chaudoin, a former Norman resident, died
Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Services were held today at Primrose Chapel with burial
in the IOOF Cemetery.
Mrs. Chaudoin was the wife of the late Carl W. Chaudoin,
who was secretary-treasurer of the Norman Chamber of
Commerce for 15 years, She moved to Norman in 1941 and
to Oklahoma City in 1958. She has also resided in Wellington,
McClain and Amarillo, Tex.
Born in Texola, Mrs. Chaudoin was a graduate of West
Texas College, Canyon, Tex. and also held a master's degree
in music from the University of Oklahoma. She was the first
violinist of Melody Maids of West Texas, one of the first all-girl
orchestras in the nation.
A former faculty member of the OU School of music, she also
taught at Norman High, at McKinley and Jackson elementary
schools, at Crooked Oak in Oklahoma City, and in Puerto
Rico. She was a former owner of Coed Dress Shop on Campus
Corner.
Mrs. Chaudoin was the author of "A Family Called Smith" and
traveled extensively in Europe, South America and North America.
She was a member of the Norman Music Club, Daughters of the
American Revolution, Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Mu Phi Music Club,
the OU Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sooner unit of the Contract
Bridge League, Elwood Garden Club, Norman Country Club
and McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Nova Seeds, 810 S. Lahoma
Ave., and Mrs. Novella Barnett of Oklahoma City, and two brothers,
W.S. Howard, Bartlesville, and Donald B. Howard, Amarillo, Tex.
