Mildred L. Lee, 74, 410 S. Webster Ave., former Norman teacher,
died Tuesday in Norman Municipal Hospital.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Primrose Chapel with Dr.
Hugh Wilson of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will
be in the IOOF Cemetery.
Mrs. Lee had been a teacher for approximately 46 years, and was
named teacher of the year in 1961. She taught at Lincoln elementary
for 11 years, Washington elementary for a year, Wilson for 26 years,
Tulsa and Wilburton. She came to Norman from Wilburton in 1927 and
retired in 1969.
She was born July 12, 1903 in Oswego, Kan.
She was an organizer of Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girl groups and
was a winner of the Luther Halsey Gulick Award, the highest award
given by the National Camp Fire Organization. She served 10 years
on the board of directors of the Camp Fire Girls.
Mrs. Lee was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Oklahoma
Education Association, National Education Association, Classroom
teachers Association, Parent Teacher Association, Dahlia Garden Club
and the First Christian Church.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Kay) Hickman of 313 Forest
Drive; a brother, M.E. Hurst of Tahlequah and two granddaughters, Dana
and Danise Hickman of 313 Forest Drive.
Bearers will be Dr. George Ingles, Herbert Hickman, Herman Watson,
Ralph Wilson, Charles Pinkham and Phillip Schaprio.
