Marian G. Michael, 91, of Norman died Thursday, Oct. 10, at a local
nursing center following an extended illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mayes Chapel of Remembrance
with the Rev. Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery
in Norman. Mayes Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
She was born Oct. 1, 1905, in Home City, Kan., to A.E. and Edith
Mae Snider Thomas. At an early age, she moved to Norman, where she
attended and graduated from Norman High School. She attended the
University of Oklahoma and graduated with a bachelor's degree in
education.
Following her graduation, she began her teaching career. While
teaching in Mustang, she met and married Ford Michael. They made
their home in Norman.
She was a member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church
and a past member of the Eastern Star. She was an avid OU football
and basketball fan and held season tickets for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ford, in
1983; three brothers, Gene Thomas, Merlin Thomas and Van Thomas.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn B. Powell and her husband,
James, of Norman, a brother, Everett Thomas of Norman; sister,
Gwendolyn Tullius of Norman and Elizabeth Shilling of Ardmore;
sisters-in-law, Marcelle Thomas of Waco, Texas, and Nellie Mae
Thomas of Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bill Black, Earl Butts, J.O. Spiller, J.B. Johnson,
Gene Sayers and Eddie Evans.
