Anna Belle Crownover Nations of Baytown, Texas, died at a
hospital in Baytown on Thursday Aug. 13. The former Norman
resident was 87.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Lower
Spring Creek Cemetary, near Danville, Ark., with the Rev. Roger
Glover officiating. Services are under the direction of Navarre-Lee
Funeral Hime at Baytown.
Born July 2, 1905, near Belleville, Ark., she was the daughter of
W.O. "Buddy" and Jeanette "Nettie" Crownover, whose families
were early-day settlers in Arkansas, where she was a resident
until moving to Oklahoma to further her education. She completed
her bachelor's and master's degrees in education at the University
of Oklahoma.
An educator, she taught school in Arkansas, Oklahoma and
Germany, where she taught at military installations.
During World War II. she stopped teaching in order to assist
with the war effort, by working in California shipyards. Following
the war, she resumed teaching, from which she retired in 1967.
Mrs. Nations had been a resident of Baytown since 1985.
Mrs. Mations was a member of McFarlin Memorial United
Methodist Church, OU Dames and the Amercian Association
of University Women. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching in
her spare time.
Preceded in death by her brothers, Maurice, E.F. "Bub", Boyd
and Sidney, Mrs. Nations is survived by her daughter, Laura
Woods of Baytown, Texas; and two granddaughters, Della Ann
Woods of Conroe, Texas, and Laura Suzanne Elliott of Houstan,
Texas.
