Ruth Reed Scott, a lifelong Norman resident, died at her home on
Monday, April 5. She was 90.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mayes chapel of
Remembrance with Dr. W. Glen Doak officiating. Burial will be in
IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Mayes Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Scott was born to Fred and Gertie Blake Reed on December
7. 1902, at Norman. A 1921 graduate of Norman High School, she
received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the
University of Oklahoma in 1925. She was a teacher at Jefferson
School for 23 years before retiring in 1968.
She was a member of the Clevland County and Oklahoma
Historical Societies, the Black Beaver Chapter of the Daughters
of the American Revoluion, the Cleveland County Bird Club,
Kappa Phi Sorority, and various teachers organizations including:
Kappa Kappa Iota, Cleveland County Retired teachers Association,
and the National Retired Teachers Assocaition. She also was an
active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Norman where
she served on the board of deacons and elders.
Mrs. Scott is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Dragoo of
Norman; her son, Gene, of Norman; seven grandchildren; and 13
great-grabdchildren.
She was precedd in death by three brothers and one sister.
The family has suggested the Memorial fund of the First Presbyterian
Church, 555 S. Universiity Blvd., Norman, 73071 or the Oklahoma
Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th St. Oklahoma City,
73104 as appropriate for memorial contributions.
