Juanita Fay Henderson Smith, 79, Norman, died Thursday Sept. 12, in
Norman.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, at Primrose Chapel,
with Dr. Lavonn Brown officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery,
under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.
She was born May 14, 1917, to John Bynum and Maude Henderson
at Hastings. She graduated from Waurika High School in 1935. She
married Arthur Carl Smith on May 21, 1937. In 1952, she graduated
from Oklahoma College for Women, She also attended Central State
University and the University of Oklahoma.
Mrs. Smith was a public school teacher. She taught from 1945 to 1950
at Terral, and from 1950 to 1955 at Vinson, where she taught vocational
home economics and was the junior high school principal.
From 1955 to 1972, she taught in Norman at Washington, Jackson
and Monroe elementary schools.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Oklahoma Retired
Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association, American
Association of Retired persons and was a 50-year member of the
Eastern Star in Magnum.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Arthur, of the home; a son,
Ronald J. Smith of Lake Texoma; a sister, Ozella Kelman and her
husband, Jakie of Comanche; a brother-in-law, Floyd Smith of Del City;
a brother, J.B. Henderson Jr., and his wife, Esther, of Waurika; a
grandson, Ky Steven Smith and his wife, Jody, of Mustang; a
granddaughter, Ronda Kathryn Mandrell and her husand, Jerry, of
Grand Prairie, Texas; three great-granddaughters, Amanda Lynne
Smith and Kylee Smith, both of Mustang, and Dior Mandrell of
Grand Prairie, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
