Ida Mae Snoddy of Guthrie died Saturday, May 15. She was 94.
Services are planned for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at McFarlin United
Methodist Church with the Rev. George Martin officiating. Burial
will be in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Primrose
Funeral Service.
The daughter of William Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Haisten, Mrs.
Snoddy was born on Aug. 5, 1898. She attended Stratford Elementary
School and in May of 1917 she received a lifetime teaching certificate
from the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. She was also
a graduate of East Central University in Ada, where she received her
bachelor of science in education degree.
She married Ewing Snoddy at Stratford and came to Norman in
1938 from Amber. In 1963, Mrs. Snoddy retired from Jefferson
Elementary School in Norman. She was a member of the McFarlin
Memorial United Methodist Church, the National Retired Teachers
Association, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewing; her parents,
William and Elizabeth; a son; two daughters; a sister and one
great-grandchild.
Mrs. Snoddy is survived by eight grandsons, Robert Hawkins of
Houstan, Texas, Calvin Hawkins of Springfield, Mo.; William
Hawkins of Richmond, Texas; Douglas Hawkins of Guthrie; Charles
Snoddy of New York, Donald Hawkins of Houstan, Texas; Jim
Snoddy of Oklahoma City, and Tom Snoddy of Little Rock, Ark.;
two granddaughters, Mary Dale Hawkins Blake of Houstan, Texas,
and Jane Ann Snoddy Mott of Oklahoma City, nine great-grandsons
and eight great-granddaughters.
The family has suggested the Oklahoma Medical Research
Foundation, 825 Northeast 13th Street, Oklahoma City, 73104 as
appropriate for memorial contributions.
