Mr. Sullivan was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 226. We had several very good adult leaders in that troop, but Mr. Sullivan certainly was an awesome leader. You had to respect Mr. Sullivan. While he had a very kind and caring side to him, he also had a very strict and commanding side as well. You did not want to make Mr. Sullivan angry. He would turn a bright scarlet if you happened to upset him. When Mr. Sullivan wanted everybody to straighten up, it would happen very quickly. He really knew how to have fun and enjoy himself.
One of my favorite memories was of a Summer Camp. I can't remember whether this was at Lake Texhoma or another summer camp we had along the Arkansas River. Lee Whittelsey had brought his snare drum with him to camp. Mr. Sullivan had Lee play a snare drum solo for him, sort of a command performance, in his tent one afternoon. Lee was awesome. I was very impressed, and Mr. Sullivan was quite pleased. You know how it is in a rock concert when the drummer just blows everybody away with an extended solo? It was like that, but a lot more intense.
I believe Mr. Sullivan taught at John Adams for a while.
