Former Norman resident Lula Maye Tucker, 84, of San Jose, Calif., died
Jan. 20 at Guardian of Los Gatos in Los Gatos, Calif. Services were held
Jan. 24 at Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel in Exeter, Calif.
Mrs. Tucker was born March 29, 1915, in Lindsay, the daughter of A. and
Bessie (Rayburn) Hougue. She graduated from Wayne High School in
1933 and continued her education at East Central Teachers College in Ada.
Upon receiving her bachelor's degree in education in 1937, she began to
teach in various country schools in the area. On Aug. 20, 1937, she
married Tilmon Hampton "TH." Tucker in Seminole. The couple moved to
Norman in 1956, where she taught grade school and received the Teacher
of the Year award. After her move she furthured her education from the
University of Oklahoma. In 1966, they moved to San Jose, Calif. and
continued their teaching careers at Alum Rock School District. She
taught fourth grade until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the
Oak Grove Baptist Church in San Jose.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, T.H. at Our Lady of Fatima Villa in
Saratoga, Calif.; son Charles and his spouse, BJ, of Los Gatos;
daughter, Sherri Hemenway and her spouse, Ron, of Vallejo; five
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother.
