Lois Moody White, 97, of Norman, died Tuesday, June 26,
at Cedar Creek Nursing Home. Services are scheduled for
10 a.m. Friday at the Mayes Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery
in Ardmore. Mayes Funeral Directors is handling arrangements.
Mrs. White was born Jan.22, 1904, In Dixie, to James Lee and
Ida Hollabaugh Moody. She was a graduate of Dundee High
School. She married Charles O. White on April 28, 1928, in
Ardmore. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1950.
She received a bachelor's degree from Central State University
in 1951 and a master's degree in education from the University
of Oklahoma in 1953.
She taught school at Stauton Elementary School and Rexroat
Consolidated School from 1922-25; Healdton Elementary from
1947-52; Norman Public Schools from 1952-60; in Caracus,
Venezuela from 1960-63; and Norman Public Schools from
1963-69. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma professional
teacher's organization, National Education Association, a life
member of Oklahoma Education Association, a life member of
Oklahoma Retired Teacher's Association, a life member of Central
State University Alumni Association, a life member of the OU
Alumni Assocaition, Order of the Eastern Star, Norman Regional
Hospital Auxiliary, and the Cleveland County Retired Teachers.
She was a member of the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist
Church. She was involved in the United Methodist Women, an
usher for morning worship and a regular office volunteer.
Survivors include a brother, Kenneth Moody; six granchildren,
Johnny McKnight, Janet McKnight, Jerry McKnight, James White,
Debbie Jackson and Terri White; 12 great-grandchildren; and a
great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two
children, James L. White and J.A. McKnight; two brothers,
Travis Moody and Neal Moody; and a sister, Jean Ferrell.
