Ula Martin, 86, Norman, died Monday, Oct.2, at Norman Regional
Hospital, following a brief illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday
at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, with her brother-in-law,
the Rev. George L. Martin, and Dr. Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will
be at Norman IOOF Cemetery, with arrangements by Havenbrook
Funeral Home.
Her parents were Jasper D. and Vada Richardson Foreman. She
was born in Beckham County near Sayre, in a half-dugout home.
She graduated from high school in Olustee, and received a bachelor's
degree from East Central State University and a master's degree
from the University of Oklahoma. She married Wesley A. Martin on
Christmas Eve 1927. She moved to Norman in 1953 from Purcell.
Mrs. Martin taguht school for 35 years, including 19 years in
the Norman Public School system. She taught math at Central
Junior High for eight years, and at West Junior High for 11 years,
retiring in 1972.
She was an active member of McFarlin United Memorial Methodist
Church, Fellowship Class, Circle 10 of United Methodist Women,
and Kappa Kappa Iota. She was a member of the Easter Star and
a past matron. She was a lifetime member of the OU Alumni Association.
She also was an active volunteer for 18 years at the American Red
Cross and was nominated twice fro Cleveland County Volunteer
of the Year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, in 1971; her
parents; five brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a son, Wesley A. Martin and his wife, Billie A.
Martin, of Norman; a granddaughetr, Crystal Martin of Norman; three
sisters, Keo Creel and Ada MacMichael of Salinas, Calif, and Ina
White of Olympia, Wash.; and two brothers, Hal Foreman of
Salinas, Calif., and Van Foreman of Sacremento, Calif.
