Funeral services for Walter W. Warren, 84, of Norman, will be at
10 a.m. Saturday at the Mayes Chapel of Remembrance with Dr.
Phil Fenn officiating. Mr. Warren died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Norman
Regional Hospital. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park
Cemetary with Mayes Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Warren was born Feb. 13, 1906, to Ed W. and Alice Tolbert
Warren at Wapanucka, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. He grew up in
the Atoka area and was graduated from high school at Durant. He
earned his bachelor's degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State
University at Durant and later attended the University of Oklahoma.
He earned a master's degree from Oklahoma State University.
A teacher of history and math, Mr. Warren taught high school at
Atoka and served on the faculty of Eastern A&M Collge at Wil-
burton. Before moving to Norman in 1961 he served as elementary
school principal at Talihina, Oklahoma. He taught at Norman High
School from 1961 until his retirement in 1970.
Mr. Warren was an active member of the National Education
Association, the Oklahoma Education Association and the Cleve-
land County Retired Teachers Association. Other intersts and
activities included working with the Boy Scouts of America and civic
work through the Lions Club. He also was active in the Senior
Citizens Center and was a member of the McFarlin Memorial
United Methodist Church. He had served as church Sunday school
superintendent at Talihina.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of the home; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Dr. Ray E. and Patti Warren of Burkeville, Texas,
and U.S. Navy Capt. Edward O. and Judy Warren of Omaha, Neb.;
a daughter and son-in-law, Jane Warren and Jerry Bias of Norman;
five grandchildren, Kelly Gallagher of Monterrey, Calif., Lindy
Winter of Redlands, Calif.,Tanya Warren of Bryn Mawr, Penn.,
Eric Warren and Allison Bias, both of Norman; a great-grandson,
Ryan Gallagher of Monterrey, Calif. He was preceded in death by
two brothers.
Bearers will be Dee Forrest, Bryan Warren, Jesse Nelson,
Herschel Franklin, Charles Bishop and Thomas Pento. Honorary
bearers are Sidney Camp, Leo Faudree, Dean Warren and
Ted Crawford.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 a.m. Saturday.
The family has designated memorial contributions to the Ameri-
can Cancer Society as appropriate expression of sympathy.
